About us
The HELP (Havre Encourages Long–range Prevention) Committee was started in Havre in 1979 to better educate youth about the effects of drugs and alcohol. Over the years, the HELP Committee has been awarded numerous state and federal grants to do prevention work in this area.
In 2001, a member of the Board of Directors suggested opening a Boys & Girls Club. The need for after–school care was tremendous, as well as the Club′s mission: to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to achieve their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. After a year of planning, the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi–Line opened its doors on July 1, 2002. The board set a goal of signing up 250 members during the first year. Amazingly, the goal was met within six weeks.
Since then, the Club membership has continued to thrive. Early in 2008 it became apparent that if the trend continued, the Club would be far over its capacity by the spring of 2009. In order to maintain a safe environment, and to prevent our staff from being overwhelmed, the Club instituted a cap and limited our membership to 550 kids for the school year. The strategy worked, with average daily attendance staying around 200 all year long.
The Club is now Havre′s premier youth development organization, and is well regarded around the state, providing services to over 700 kids every year, roughly 24% of the area′s youth and children. our goal is to be able to welcome every child, both now and in the future.
